URGESTEIN RIESLING
This primary rock Riesling comes mainly from vineyards that are less than 15 years old on the Gaisberg and Heiligenstein slopes.
Young vines tend to yield more grapes and are not so deeply rooted that they can represent the clear character of the soil. Therefore, the varietal character stands out here more so than the character of the vineyard.

WINESTATE: 4,5/5 Stars
A very elegant Riesling. Nose not giving much away yet. The long lingering palate has gentle citrus and pear characters expanding along the palate. Great potential.

VINOUS/David Schildknecht: Rating 88
Issuing principally from young vines in the Gaisberg and Heiligenstein, by being labeled (like its Domäne Gobelsburg counterpart) simply for origination in Lower Austria rather than with the Kamptal DAC, this cuvée at least theoretically holds open the door to including fruit from across the Kremstal line south of Gobelsburg. As befits its principal origins, though, it delivers floral perfume as well as a stony undertone. Brightly refreshing apple and lime are laced with saliva-liberating salinity in a buoyant and refreshing finish.

VIKTOR SIEGL:
Delicate pear fruit, a touch of quince and white peach come through, elegant and lightly flowery; beautiful balance and some body as well as early harmony, restrained pineapple in the background, very earthy, lively acidity on the finish

PARKER: Rating 90
Clearer and juicier than its “Domaene Gobelsburg” counterpart but no less extract-rich, the 2012 Riesling Gobelsburger projects more of a sense of transparency to rather than saturation with stony mineral elements. Bittersweet floral perfume points to the inclusion of Heiligenstein raw material, and a tingling, energetically interactive finishing impression confirms the performance of a superb value well above its generic class, and one that should be worth following through at least 2017, for whatever few wine lovers might attempt that or simply forget some bottles in their cellar.

VIKTOR SIEGL:
Beguiling bouquet à la vineyard peach and Gravenstein. Streamlined and playful. Quite powerful on the palate with generous extract and balance, and completed by crisp acidity. Very good length. This deserves a special accolade as an optimal light-style Riesling.
