LÖSS
GRÜNER VELTLINER
Loess’ terraces are the classical picture of the Kamptal valley.
The soft formed hills around Langenlois are an entrance to the Waldviertel. Loess is a sandy soil – brought to the region by winds ten thousands of years ago from the Alpine regions. This limy soil gives the Grüner Veltliner its classical structure of elegance and its unique character.

VINOUS/David Schildknecht: Rating 88
It had somehow escaped my notice that a cuvée called “Loessterrassen” has long numbered among Schloss Gobelsburg’s bottlings under the “Gobelsburger” label, a rubric that has now been replaced by “Schlosskellerei Gobelsburg”. It features as it does lentil, crab apple and lime wreathed in floral and green herbal perfumes, lovely buoyancy and polish, and a refreshingly juicy, bright, pepper-tinged finish. I detect a bit of apple-pip piquancy along with a hint of alkalinity to that finish.
VINTAGE 2013
VIKTOR SIEGL:
Striking on the nose, which somewhat recalls green tea and white pepper, and a fine herbaceous piquancy noticeable; light to medium-bodied, clear apple and pear fruit on the finish, fresh and juicy, ready to drink now.

VINTAGE 2012
VIKTOR SIEGL:
On the nose are aromas of hay and spice with a whiff of rhubarb; flowery and still a bit reserved. Lean and compact with yellow fruit nuances. With its depth, this wine is a classic expression of the Danube vineyards – a bit of roundness and suppleness combined with a lengthy finish.

VINTAGE 2008
VIKTOR SIEGL:
Intense and assertive, lime-tree blossom and rhubarb, fine notes, light to medium bodied, gripping flavour, pure Veltliner. Hints of black pepper become apparent in the final third. Balanced and easy to drink.
