RIED GAISBERG KAMPTAL
Ried (single vineyard, cru) Gaisberg belongs to three villages (Kammern, Zöbing and Strass) and is situated right east to Heiligenstein.
The most eastern part of the Gföhler gneiss plate is marked by slaty para-gneiss, amphibolite and mica. Some parts of the Riesling terraces belong to the oldest vineyards of the winery.

VINTAGE 2019
JANCIS ROBINSON, tasting 1/9/2020: rating 17
Deep and golden on the nose but no suggestion of sweetness. Ripe citrus and golden spice. A complex meeting point of sweet fruit and savoury, stony minerality. Really hard to describe. Rich, yet mouth-watering and very long.
jamessuckling.com Austria´s excellent 2019 vintage report: rating 96
Ripe mango, a ton of spice and serious concentration make this an imposing, traditional style of Austrian dry riesling. Lots of power at the long finish, where you also get some exotic fruit to go with the substantial portion of spice and minerals.

JAMES SUCKLING: Score 95
The interplay between ripe tropical fruit, apple tart and then much brighter mountain flowers and spices, such as eidelweiss and orange blossom, infused in spring mist. Very full-bodied and powerful, but impeccably nuanced and structured, in view of the piercing, tightly wound acidity. Long and delightful to drink now, but will offer the best drinking window in 4 years.
VINTAGE 2017
WINE ADVOCATE: Rating 94
Moosbrugger’s 2017 Zöbing Ried Gaisberg “1ÖTW” is as pure as intensely aromatic on the nose. Round, lush and fine on the palate, with crystalline structure and salinity and a velvety texture, this is still characterized by the lees’ aging. This is a salty-piquant, pure and even crunchy Riesling with great intensity and length. A great wine that should be cellared for 5+ years.
JAMESSUCKLING.COM: Rating 93
This is rather funky and it doesn´t blow off quickly. However, behind this is a concentrated riesling with plenty of textural complexity and a long, spicy finish. Long aging potnential. Better from 2020.

Great lemon, white peach and spice aromas are married to a medium body with a hint of creamy richness at the front. Then comes the austere finish with a ton of mineral power. Drink now and for some years to come.
BLIND TASTED BY ANDREAS LARSSON: Rating 94
Bright light golden colour. Pure and stony nose, elegant yellow fruit, peach, pear, ripe citrus and floral notes emanate. Very bright and fresh palate, medium weight with plenty of stuffing, juicy peach notes with some stone dust and fine extract with a very long and grippy finish. Pure and precise.
VINTAGE 2015
WINE ENTHUSIAST: Rating 95
Ripe Amalfi lemon and the savory peel of still-green Seville oranges make for a heady alluring flavor combination. The same notions also beguile on the palate where they become even more intense. All of this is delivered in a powerful but compact parcel of exquisite cleanliness. This encapsulates the Austrian virtue of precise pleasure perfectly.

On the nose come intimations of crushed stone that, along with smoky, ore-like undertones and a sweet-saline, iodine-laced savor akin to shrimp-shell reduction and oyster liquor, lend intrigue to the luscious fruitiness of apple, white peach, kiwi, grapefruit and lime. This positively bursts onto the palate, yet for all of the ensuing invigoration, the lushness and satiny feel point to the positive aspects of a brush with botrytis. The sensationally sustained finish is downright reverberative. It seems little short of miraculous that this wine outperforms even its illustrious 2013 predecessor.
WINE ADVOCATE/Robert Parker: Rating 92-93
The 2014 Riesling Gaisberg 1ÖTW opens very clear, fresh and spicy on the concentrated and piquant nose, white peach skins, pineapples and lemon peels. This Riesling is intense, juicy and piquant, with grip and a firm structure. It has nice tannins, is very elegant and pure, but with concentrated fruit, firm flesh, good grip, good length and structure. This is excellent.
WINE ENTHUSIAST: Rating 93
A very subtle nose gives a mere glimpse of lemon zest, the palate delivers a thrillingly pure and exquisitely honest flavor that suggests clear mountain lakes and clean Alpine air. This is bracing and fresh, delicate and lemon-scented from the first sniff to the last echoing aftertaste. This could be dangerously addictive with its concentrated but ultraslender features.

You’d quickly become an amateur geologist if you read about the soil formations of the Gaisberg cru, which belongs to three villages (Kammern, Zöbing and Strass) and is, geologically, the most eastern part of the Gföhler Gneiss plate. As such it is marked by slaty para-gneiss, amphibolite and mica. Even more interesting for wine lovers, though, are the wines produced on such a complex soil composition. Schloss Gobelsburg’s 2013 Gaisberg Riesling from Kammern is one of the finest you can find. Grown in some of the oldest terraces Michi Moosbrugger is cultivating it attracts with a clear, piquant and spicy expression of its terroir and stimulating aromas of ripe and cooked apricots. Lovely pure, precise and very elegant on the palate this medium to full-bodied, well-balanced and finesseful wine finishes with an impressive precision and persistent salinity mixed with aromas of white peaches and apricots. This is a beautiful dry Riesling indeed. Drink: 2014-2030
WINE SPECTATOR: Rating 91
Layers of plush apple tart, baked pear and dried apricot flavors feature some honey notes, with allspice and nutmeg accents filling the seductively spicy finish. Drink now through 2022.
VIKTOR SIEGL:
Fully ripened apricot and a touch of lecithin, grapy and balanced, immediately gains depth; youthful and powerful, texture firm, then again yellow-fruit components, generally juicy and very fruity, remains on the palate, promising, spirited acidity on the finish, many points for popularity.

PARKER: 92 Punkte
The Schloss Gobelsburg 2012 Riesling Gaisberg displays mineral diversity – crushed stone, salts, and mysteriously ore-like notes such as were noted also in its 2010 instantiation – in the sense of suffusion as well as of shimmering presence glimpsed through transparent juiciness of pure apple, mirabelle and white peach. Piquancy of fruit pit serves for ideal contrast and counterpoint to the Schmalz of glycerol-richness and gloss. The finish here is exhilarating in its projection of energy unlikely to dim through at least 2022.
WINE ENTHUSIAST: Rating 91 Punkt
Still restrained on the nose, this wine takes time to develop, but the underlying purity is most promising. There are stores of citrus, mandarin, orange and lemons together with juicy yellow pear and a clean vein of acidity.
SWA/Sommelier Wine Awards: Gold Medal
Focus and precision, and a step up in complexity won our judges’ hearts. Ripe and round with spices and minerals, there’s a little tutti frutti on the palate, with confit lemons and a good balance. “So much more sense of place” said team leader Simon Woods. “This is a great food wine, and still at a very good price” said Roger Jones of The Harrow at Little Bedwyn, immediately thinking of fish. Other suggestions included sashimi with a touch of lime.
VIKTOR SIEGL:
Cask sample: At first a bit closed. But with a little bit of air, the wine quickly opens to release scents of orange peel, pineapple and a pleasant exotic note. Subtle undertones of yellow fruit – including slightly stewed apricots – and hazelnuts. Supple and round, and will age nicely.
