RIED LAMM
KAMPTAL
Ried (single vineyard, cru) Lamm is situated on the southeast slope of the Heiligenstein. Erosion material from Heiligenstein (perm, red siltstone) and a high proportion of clay can be found at this site.
The vineyard is south-facing and very well exposed. This helps develop the grapes for a wine that, after maturation in traditional double-foudre casks from local forest of Manhartsberg, result in a wine with power and elegance.

JAMES SUCKLING, austrian transition report vintage 2019: 96 points
It’s not often that a young Austrian gruner veltliner reminds you of Burgundy, though mature examples often do. The ripe-mirabelle, candied-pineapple and dried-herb aromas are married to a palate that’s rich and creamy. But beneath the waterline this is also a highly structured wine. Rather imposing finish, suggesting excellent aging potential.

Brilliant medium green-yellow with silver highlights. Ripe apple and subtle mango mingle with blossom honey and candied orange zest notes. Multifaced on the palate with an elegant, juicy acid structure. The complex finish features pineapple, mango and delicate spicy notes. Tremendous potential for further development and aging.
WINE ADVOCATE/ ROBERT PARKER, rating 93
The 2018 Kammern Ried Lamm 1ÖTW displays an intense golden-yellow color and opens with a deep, clear and complex, remarkably refined and elegant, crystalline and flinty bouquet of crushed stones, herbs and ripe Veltliner fruit. Full-bodied, lush and intense but fine and elegant on the silky-textured and well-balanced palate, this is a perfectly round and sweet, lush and ripe, pretty generous Lamm with a long and elegant, beautifully balanced but tensioned and stimulating salty finish.
VINTAGE 2017
WINE ADVOCATE/Robert Parker: rating 92
Moosbrugger’s intensely yellow colored 2017 Kammern Ried Lamm “1ÖTW” is very intense, precise and deep on the nose, where ripe and well-concentrated fruit intertwines with crystalline stony notes and a touch of oak. Mouth-fillingly juicy but fine and elegant on the pure and mineral palate, this is a lush and intensely fruity but also piquant Lamm with great intensity and a lingering mineral finish. Fine tannins add even more structure and give this deep and complex wine impressive aging potential.
FALSTAFF ULTIMATE WINE GUIDE 2019/20: rating 95
Brilliant green-yellow with silver highlights. Ripe mango and apricot laced with blossom honey and herbal spice with a mineral touch. Full-bodied and firmly structured with taut acidity. Delicate stone fruit and apple remain persistent on the long finish. Not very youthful, but still possesses dependable potential for further positive development.
JANCIS ROBINSON, AUSTRIAN TASTING in LONDON: rating 16,5
The Lamm lies on the southeast part of the Heiligenstein, where the mountain forms into soft hills. The soil consists of loess and loam.
Greenish straw. There’s an impressive coolness about this. But the acid seems relatively low.Easy and charming without being compelling. Nicely put together without exaggeration. 13.5% Drink 2019-2023

The balance of this grüner veltliner is like that of a geat chardonnay, but the complex herb and green-pepper aromas are totally different. In spite if the concentration, it is delicate on the palate. Long, creamy and spicy finish with ever expanding mineral character. Drink or hold.

JAMES SUCKLING: Rating 96
This smells like being in a room full of drying herbs and flowers. Rich and creamy from the high ripeness but with a freshness that’s discrete yet ever present. At no point on this wine’s long glide across the palate does it seem the least bit fat or heavy.
BLIND TASTED BY ANDREAS LARSSON: Rating 95
Bright light golden colour. Pure nose, stony and flinty with crushed peach, yellow fruit, ripe citrus and a mild spiciness. Very good density without heaviness, fresh and grippy with mellow extract, fresh peach, citrus and stone fruit notes with a dense and very long finish. Rich, bold, yet fresh and digest. Very good

There is something of the summer meadow about this—the scent of yarrow combines with sun-ripened stone fruit. The lightness of touch is amazing: It tiptoes on the tongue but sprays with peppery freshness and lemon poise. What a lovely, balanced and light-footed joy. The long finish of yeasty spicy savor shows off the serious core of this wine.

Scents of acacia, mint, honeydew melon and earthy beet also inform the expansive palate, where the piquancy and minerality of chard is introduced, along with a cucumber-like sense of crunchy invigoration and refreshment more familiar from lighter-weight and less texturally rich examples of this grape. Smoky pungency suggests toasted buckwheat, and Madagascar peppercorn teams intriguingly with crushed stone in the long finish.
WINE ADVOCATE/Robert Parker: Rating 93
The 2014 Grüner Veltliner Lamm 1ÖTW has ripe and dried apples and lemon flavors on the clear, nicely concentrated, mineral nose. The aromatics also reflect a lush summer meadow. Round and rich on the palate, this full-bodied and elegant wine reveals a nice purity and salinity, as well as an impressive length. Very firm structure, with great aging potential, this wine has nice purity and concentration. Grip and hope!
WINE ENTHUSIAST: Rating 91
The nose is not forthcoming and the palate only hints very subtly at white pepper and green pear. There is ample freshness on the light palate and the finish is one of pure lemon zest. It is weightlesseness and poise rather than power that convinces here.

VIKTOR SIEGL:
Delicate play of fruits reminiscent of red currants and white nougat, many details, immediately prefiguring finesse and depth; full-bodied and sprightly, above all shows fine details in spite of its power, very fine nuances, highly elegant and polished, purist premium Veltliner with great length, high storage potential.
PARKER / WINE ADVOCATE: Rating 94
Moosbrugger’s 2013 Ried Lamm Veltliner is a stunning wine proving the grand cru status of the site, which is situated at the bottom of the southeastern part of the famous Heiligenstein where a higher clay proportion makes it a perfect terroir for Grüner Veltliner. Cool, precise and very complex on the nose, it displays spicy mineral and herbal flavors with subtle fruit delicately integrated. Fermented and aged until July in traditional domestic oak barrels of 2,500 liters, this is a full-bodied, pure and complex wine combing power with piquancy and finesse, as well as a stimulating and lingering salinity in the extraordinary long finish. This great wine tastes like melting stones but is also fruit intense, serene and very elegant. A stunning wine indeed and a must buy.

Mossy, alkaline and saline suggestions already in the nose of the Schloss Gobelsburg 2012 Gruner Veltliner Lamm set the tone for another minerally complex exemplar of its cepage and terroir whose juicy white peach fruit is transparent to such nuances in a Riesling-reminiscent manner. The combination of glycerol richness and sheer extract on display here lends a faint and supportive suggestion of sweetness and caramelization that will doubtless be enhanced by time in bottle, of which this offering can certainly stand more than a decade. “Since 2006 I have turned my back on alcohol,” notes Moosbrugger as we taste this wine of barely 13.5%, while noting that despite the aforementioned suggestion of sweetness, it is in fact analytically “bone” dry. Subtle bitterness of quinine and fruit pit lends contrast and counterpoint in a lingering, resonant finish. Plan to follow some through 2022.
VIKTOR SIEGL:
Cask sample: A chiseled wine with a highly charismatic bouquet – notes of white nougat and milk chocolate along with some strawberry and pineapple tones. Very complex and charming with plenty of breadth and depth, full of layers and textures. Highly elegant with an exotic fruit undertone. So pure and expressive.

VINTAGE 2011
VIKTOR SIEGL:
Smooth duet of blossom honey and roasted almonds, positivley archetypal terroir character, mature and vibrant with the focus on elegance; rich, palatable finesse, resonant and expressive, bundled, constan trevelation of new facets, exciting definition and radiance, will undoubtedly develop into a superior Kamptaler Veltliner.
WINE&SPIRITS:
From a vineyard of deep loam and loess below Heiligenstein, this is big and brothy. It starts with the rich savor of chicken fat and Marcona almonds, then takes on an earthy resonance highlighted by ginger and ginseng spice. The finish hints at earthy florals, suggesting this will have more detail to show in another five to eight years.
